This piano moving checklist helps homeowners, schools, churches, studios, venues, and property managers give the crew the information that actually matters. Better details mean a better quote, a cleaner route plan, and fewer surprises.
1. Identify the piano
Start with the type: grand, baby grand, upright, console, studio, spinet, or digital piano. If you are not sure, take a photo from the front and side. For vertical pianos, height helps. For grands, approximate length helps.
2. Describe pickup and delivery
Share pickup and delivery cities, then add anything unusual: apartments, gated communities, retirement communities, schools, churches, studios, venues, elevators, loading docks, long driveways, narrow streets, or limited parking.
3. Call out stairs and tight turns
Stairs are one of the biggest planning details. Tell the mover whether stairs are at pickup, delivery, or both. Mention landings, turns, railings, low ceilings, uneven steps, and whether the piano is going upstairs or downstairs.
4. Photograph the route
Photos can save a lot of guessing. Take pictures of the piano, the room, doorways, hallways, stairs, elevators, driveway or parking area, and final placement room. If a turn looks tight to you, photograph it. If flooring or walls are delicate, mention that too.
5. Clear the path
Before the crew arrives, remove rugs, decorations, small furniture, plants, toys, boxes, cords, and anything sitting on the piano. Keep pets secured and keep extra helpers out of the work path. A clear route is faster and safer.
6. Decide final placement
Know where the piano should go at delivery. Think about sunlight, vents, flooring, windows, outlet access for digital pianos, bench space, and whether the room layout allows easy placement without extra shifting.

If your move is urgent, complicated, or involves stairs, call instead of guessing through a form. Piano moves reward boring preparation. That is the whole point.
